ATR - Railway Days - Wider Black Sea Area Summit 2011
On Wednesday, October 5th, 2011, Gerdwin Lammers in his capacity as President of ATR, has addressed the participants at the Railway Days - Wider Black Sea Area Summit 2011 in Bucharest. In his address Mr. Lammers summarized the problems that ATR and ESC members face while using Rail Freight in Europe to four main constraints; the failing Rail Freight Market liberalization based on the 2001 First Railway Package, the negative trend for Single Wagons vs. Block Trains, the slow TEN-T Trans European Network development unless the availability of financial funds and the issue of the branded containers versus 'gray' containers.

The European Commission has said that Romania should not exclude Dutch tulips. The Romanians, must first explain why the boycott is set.
Meanwhile, several trucks were stopped since Saturday at the the border pass. The unauthorized border troubles, has costed the Dutch flower industry so far about two million euros.

Several trucks with fresh flowers en flower bulbs from the Netherlands have been stopped at the Romanian inner border. The Romanian authorities announced that they fear that the flowers and bulbs are infected with 'dangerous bacteria'. Euro parliament members Wim van de Camp and Esther de Lange of the Dutch CDA (the Christian Democratic Party) are the opinion that the roadblock looks like blackmail. They have asked Euro Commissioner Michel Barnier (Internal Market) to comment.

The road transport law only partially harmonizes the Romanian and European legislations and does not regulate the access to the profession, the regime and severity of punishments, according to the National Union of Road Hauliers from Romania (UNTRR).

Turnover in industry rises 18.4pct in first half
The turnover in industry rose in the first half of the year by 18.4 percent compared to H1, 2010 due to growths in the processing industry (+19.1 percent) and mining (+4.1 percent), informs the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Romania to make outstanding payments worth 90 mln euros to Bechtel in two tranches
The Romanian state will make outstanding payments worth 90 million euros to the U.S. Bechtel Company in two tranches by end-2011, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Anca Boagiu said on Wednesday at the Victoria Palace (the gov't offices).
Romania To Terminate Contract With Bechtel For 300 Km Of Transylvania Hwy.
Romania will terminate its contract with constructor Bechtel for 300 km of the Transylvania Highway on which work has not yet started, sources in the Ministry of Transport told online newspaper Gandul. Bechtel will only complete its current work on two sections: 2B - Campia Turzii-Gilau and 3C - Suplacu de Barcau-Bors.
The sections together make up 118 km of the highway's planned 415 km. According to the sources, an official announcement should come Wednesday, or Thursday at the latest. Bechtel officials have declined to comment, but said they were working on an official statement, to be issued later.
Treichl: Romania needs " infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure"
The executive chairman of the Erste group Andreas Treichl is optimistic as regards the resumption of creditation in Romania and hoped the economy comes back strongly enough, so that it faces some possible slidings caused by the elections in 2012. " I hope that by October next year the economy comes back strongly enough, so that it can cope with possible slippages due to elections" Trechl said in a press conference in Vienna, posted on the bank's site.
