ATR is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that is legally constituted and created in 2007 by natural and legal persons and that operates independently from any government in Romania. The NGO maintains its non-governmental status by excluding government representatives from membership in the organization. The Association is funded by its members who pay a yearly fee based on the number of employees.
A daily activity of the ATR member companies is serving their customers. By doing so, they make use of all modes of transport; road, rail, water and air. Transport users and transporters for own account are facing growing (international) competition. Requirements of customers are ever on the increase, owing also to the growth of internet. In addition, the distance to clients is increasing as a consequence of globalization.
Therefore, more people and cargo have to be carried in less time and over often longer distances. The pressure on logistical management is further increasing as a consequence of;
- More traffic queues on Romanian and European (motor)ways
- Unsafe and bad roads in Romania; the absence of a National highway infrastructure and belt roads around cities

An uncontrolled growth of legal measures and requirements.
ATR wants to remove these obstacles as much as possible. To this effect ATR meets at local and regional level with policy decision makers. And certainly also in the political heart of Bucharest as well as in Brussels with the European Union. ATR is forcefully lobbying for the protection of our members'common interest.
